Northern California District Council of Laborers and Laborers' Local 261 Endorse California State Senator Leland Yee for the 2011 San Francisco Mayoral Election
OAKLAND, Calif., June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Northern California District Council of Laborers and Laborers' Local 261 proudly endorse California State Senator Leland Yee for the 2011 San Francisco Mayoral Election, which will be held on November 8, 2011.

The Northern California District Council of Laborers represents over 35,000 members and has over 1,700 employers signatory to its various labor agreements. Laborers' Local 261, which covers the City and County of San Francisco, represents over 3,000 members, many of whom reside in San Francisco.

Dr. Yee was the first Asian American to be appointed Assistant President Pro Tempore of the California State Senate, as well as the first Asian American to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore of the California State Assembly. Prior to serving in the California Legislature, Dr. Yee spent eight years on the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education, where he fought for the children of working families.
In 1996, Dr. Yee was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. As Chair of the Finance Committee, he championed fiscal responsibility and accountability and established the largest "Rainy Day" budget reserve in San Francisco's history. Further, Dr. Yee introduced and passed the General Obligation Bond Accountability Act and authored the Sunshine Ordinance to allow the public real access to what goes on at City Hall.
