northAmerican Van Lines Reveals Where Americans Moved in 2018
Moving Company's Interactive Tool Shows West and Southeast States as Top Moving Destinations
CHICAGO, Jan. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- northAmerican Van Lines, a leading moving company, reports 2018 inbound and outbound moving patterns have stayed relatively consistent with 2017 patterns. Migration data is based on the interactive migration tool found on the company's website.
"Each year, 14% of the U.S. population (roughly 40 million people) move for personal or job-related reasons. Migration data trends offer tremendous insight into where, and more importantly why, individuals choose to move to or from various states or regions, as well as the business and housing impacts to our country," said Andy Kroll, VP/GM of northAmerican Van Lines.
Key takeaways include:
- Top 5 inbound states include ID, AZ, SC, TN & NC
- Top 5 outbound states include IL, CA, NJ, PA & MD
- The Southeast and Western U.S. states remain strongest overall inbound regions
- Idaho regains top inbound spot for 3rd time in 4 years
- Illinois again topped the outbound moves list; 4th time since 2014
- Top inbound states primarily warm weather states
- Possible correlation between state property taxes and migration*
Data is based on inbound and outbound consumer moves. Top states are those where the difference between inbound and outbound moves is equal to or greater than 400. See report for full methodology disclosure.
