North Texas Walk This Saturday to Raise Money and Awareness for Suicide Prevention
DALLAS, Oct. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nearly 1,000 registered North Texas residents will walk this Saturday, October 4, 2014 to raise awareness and money for suicide prevention. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the leading suicide research and prevention organization, will host the North Texas Out of the Darkness Community Walk followed by a 'Celebration of Life' inaugural picnic, free for all walk participants in Reverchon Park.
The fundraising walk supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP, afsp.org) by helping to support local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs to reduce the annual rate of suicide by 20 percent by 2025.
The North Texas Out of the Darkness Community Walk is one of more than 360 Out of the Darkness Community Walks (www.outofthedarkness.org) being held this fall nationwide. AFSP CEO, Robert Gebbia, will join the opening ceremony speakers in making a special announcement for Dallas area walkers. Gebbia is available for interviews Friday afternoon or Saturday morning to talk about the Out of the Darkness Community Walk, to provide understanding about mental health awareness, and the role we can all play in preventing suicide.
