CHICAGO, Dec. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- First in Chicago and one of a few in Chicagoland, North Park University launches a master's degree to prepare athletic trainers to meet new accreditation requirements.
- North Park University first in Chicago to offer fully accredited Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT)
- After Fall 2022, students will need to be enrolled in a masters-level athletic training program to qualify for taking the Board of Certification exam
- Now accepting applications through May 1st for MSAT
- Accelerated 3+2 program offered for undergraduates
Beginning 2022, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) requires athletic trainers to be enrolled in a CAATE-accredited master's program to take the Board of Certification (BOC) exam. As the only CAATE-accredited athletic training program in Chicago, North Park University welcomes its Master of Science in Athletic Training inaugural cohort, slated for July 2019.
Earning a MSAT will prepare students to pass their BOC exam. The two-year curriculum prepares graduates with the tools and experience to contribute to the evolution of the field of athletic training and societal health. As part of the curriculum, students learn through clinical experiences, hands-on training, and a seasoned faculty.
Learn and intern in world-class city
Home to major and minor sports teams, world-class dance companies, leading healthcare institutions, and an active population, North Park's MSAT graduate students receive clinical training and unparalleled learning opportunities.
"Through these clinical placements, students gain hands-on experiences while learning from professionals in the field," says Andrew Lundgren, North Park's Athletic Training Program Director.
Lundgren says students gain additional experience as members of the medical team at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Setting undergrads up for success: 3+2 Program
Similar to North Park's commitment to preparing bachelor-degreed students with advanced skills and training through the MSAT program, North Park is also at the forefront in meeting the needs of its athletic training degree-seeking undergraduates.
To fulfill the 2022 BOC exam requirement, North Park offers a five-year combination undergraduate and graduate degree. In this accelerated 3+2 program, students earn a BS in exercise science after completing four years of study and a MS in athletic training upon the fifth year.
North Park University is a city-centered, intercultural, and Christian university located in Chicago.
