North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives Working To Restore Power To 20,600 Members

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- North Carolina's electric cooperatives are working to restore power to 20,600 members without electricity as a result of the winter weather.

The numbers are up approximately 29 percent over this morning's report of 16,000 outages. In ice storms, outages often get worse after improving as ice-laden tree branches thaw, spring up and come back into contact with power lines. In the Sandhills, heavy wet snow on branches and power lines is leading to new outages. Cooperative crews are out in force working to restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible. The cooperatives appreciate the patience being shown by their members.

Road conditions remain treacherous in many areas. If you see utility vehicles stopped on the side of the road, slow down and move over if possible. This not only keeps utility workers safe, but it's also the law.
