North Carolina Student Loan Program for Health, Science and Mathematics Application Now Available
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Jan. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Students interested in pursuing careers in health, science or mathematics-related fields can apply for a scholarship/loan through the North Carolina Student Loan Program for Health, Science and Mathematics (HSM) for the 2011-12 academic year at CFNC.org/HSM.
The HSM scholarship/loan was established to provide encouragement and financial assistance to qualified North Carolina residents pursuing degrees or other recognized credentials in selected health, science and mathematics programs.
HSM funds are awarded based on major and financial need and recipients may attend a North Carolina institution or certain eligible out-of-state institutions offering degree programs not available in North Carolina. Recipients must be legal residents of North Carolina for tuition purposes who have been accepted as full-time students in accredited associate, baccalaureate, or master's or doctoral programs leading to degrees in specified health, science or mathematics-related fields. Award amounts range from $3,000–$8,500 per year depending upon degree level.
HSM recipients must agree to work in NC in their field of training one year for each year of funding received. Those who do not fulfill the service requirement must repay the loan in cash with interest.
Applications for the HSM are available at CFNC.org/HSM and will be accepted through June 1, 2011 or until all funds are exhausted, whichever occurs first.
