CHICAGO, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albert J. Osbahr, M.D., a family and occupational physician from Hickory, N.C., was elected today as a new member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA), the nation's largest and most influential physician organization.

Dr. Osbahr has been a delegate to the AMA House of Delegates since 1998. He served two terms on the AMA Council on Science and Public Health and is the current chair. He has also been a member of the AMA Council on Medical Service. Dr. Osbahr is a past president of the North Carolina Medical Society and was appointed and served on the North Carolina Governor's Task Force on Public Health and the first review panel for the North Carolina Medical Board. He is also a member of the national One Health Commission Board, serving as chairman the past two years.
Dr. Osbahr graduated from the University of North Carolina and received his medical degree from the UNC School of Medicine. He completed a family medicine residency at Marshall University School of Medicine and an occupational/preventive medicine residency at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Osbahr is currently medical director of Occupational Health Services at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. and is board certified in family, occupational and preventive medicine.
