North Beach Village Resort to Host "Botanizing North Beach Village" Exhibition with Florida Atlantic University and the City of Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- One of Fort Lauderdale Beach's most popular tourist and local staycation destinations, North Beach Village Resort, is turning up the volume on combatting climate change. In partnership with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Architecture and the City of Fort Lauderdale, North Beach Village Resort will host a public forum and discussion on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the heels of the new exhibit "Botanizing North Beach Village."
The "Botanizing North Beach Village" exhibit, which will be on display at Village Design from Wednesday, April 5-12, 2017, features two visioning projects created by architecture students at Florida Atlantic University.
"We hope everyone who is interested in continuing the discussion about the potential effects of climate change and creating a better future for Fort Lauderdale will come out to celebrate the students' hard work on April 12, 2017," said Christine Sposa, VP of Marketing and Sales at North Beach Village Resort.
The public is invited to the reception on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Village Design, located at 600 Breakers Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. Following the presentation, the students will be on-hand to answer questions. Light refreshments will be provided, and complimentary parking will be available at the lot located on the corner of Terramar Street and Antioch Avenue. RSVP for the reception by Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at [email protected] or (754) 229-3991.
"Through this exhibit the students have reimagined North Beach Village with new streetscapes and architecture that could enhance flood resilience while promoting better urbanism and greater walkability," said Jeffrey E. Huber, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Assistant Professor, School of Architecture, FAU.
The "Botanizing North Beach Village" exhibit is the result of two visioning projects, created over the past year, by FAU School of Architecture students with an interdisciplinary team of researchers and faculty. The first visioning project, a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town Grant titled "Botanizing the Asphalt of North Beach Village Integrating Public Art and Resilient Design," and the second, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Florida Sea Grant titled "ADaPT: Adaptation Design and Planning Tool for urban areas in the coastal zone to reimagine North Beach Village as a more resilient and place-based neighborhood." The ADaPT project also involved students from the University of Southern California and the University of Kansas.
