North American Spine Supports National Pain Awareness Month
September 2015 declared Pain Awareness Month
DALLAS, Sept. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The month of September has been declared National Pain Awareness Month. Proudly supported by North American Spine, Pain Awareness Month is a time when various organizations work to raise public awareness of issues in the area of pain and pain management.
"The stories of patients who wait in agony are troubling," said Adam Arnette, Chief Marketing Officer of North American Spine. "Fortunately this movement creates awareness of pain conditions and provides resources for people living with chronic pain."
Pain Awareness Month was launched in 2001 when the American Pain Foundation Action Network (ACPA) led a coalition of groups to establish September as Pain Awareness Month. Committed to raising awareness, their undertaking sought for chronic pain to be more readily recognized, better understood without the traditional stigma attached, and more fittingly treated and managed.
A component of that awareness includes the education of pain treatment such as understanding the AccuraScope Procedure. AccuraScope is a family of advanced, minimally invasive, laser spine procedures used to both diagnose and treat chronic back and neck pain of the lumbar, cervical, and thoracic regions.
"We are pleased with the success we've seen from the AccuraScope procedure," Dr. Basem Abdelfattah, fellowship-trained Pain Specialist with North American Spine in Dallas, Texas explained. "North American Spine's treatments are an innovative step that will, for many people, provide lasting relief."
A 2011 study estimated that chronic pain affects at least 100 million American adults. To date, more than 8,000 AccuraScope Procedures have been performed by board-certified physicians with specialty training. Medical research has shown that the AccuraScope procedure has an 82% success rate and saves patients an average of $23,190 in out-of-pocket costs over 5 years by reducing expenses including medical visits and medications.
