NORMA Group helps reduce weight of new Italian motorcycle

MAINTAL, Germany, Aug. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, is supplying weight-reduced fuel lines and connectors for a new Italian "superbike."

Plastic lines and connectors from NORMA Group are used to connect supply and return fuel lines to the motorcycle's electronically controlled fuel-injection system. The new NORMA Group components provide a substantial weight saving compared to the fuel connectors and rubber fuel lines previously used.

The Italian motorcycle manufacturer has greatly reduced the total weight on the latest model of the motorcycle, which now weighs about 180 kilograms with a displacement of 1,200 cubic cm and about 150 horsepower.

"There is a trend towards lighter internal components in motorcycles as well as motor vehicles and this also applies for joining products," says Werner Deggim, CEO of NORMA Group. "After all, less weight puts more power on the road and at the same time decreases energy consumption and emissions."
