MAINTAL, Germany, June 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, chipped in to help its neighbors earlier this month in the second annual NORMA Help Day at all of its global sites.
NORMA Group employees stepped up to work as volunteers and raise funds for various charities and projects in communities near their workplaces.
In the U.S. NORMA Americas employees in Auburn Hills and Lake Orion, Michigan, were on hand June 4 to help kids and adults with special needs compete in the standing long jump and pentathlon competitions at the Special Olympics in Mt Pleasant, Michigan.
"Special Olympics Michigan is extremely thankful for the volunteer support of NORMA Group at our State Summer Games. Volunteers are the heart of our organization, and we wouldn't be able to provide high quality competitions and life-changing programs without them," said Aaron Mills, senior marketing and communications director for Special Olympics.
On June 7, NORMA Group Michigan employees sorted donated food for the needy at the Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit and helped residents affected by the Flint water crisis by working with the United Way to pass out bottled water at a local church.
"We are just amazed by all the help that continues to pour into Flint. It's wonderful to see people reaching out from all over the state and country to help us out. We're excited to welcome NORMA Group to Catholic Charities and hope they can see the difference they will be making in the lives of our friends and neighbors," noted Vicky Schultz, president and CEO of Catholic Charities.
NORMA Americas employees in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, formed four teams to challenge each other in a penny wars competition to raise money to benefit the Tunnelton Fire Department and Saltsburg Food Bank. Employees also added to the fundraising by selling 50/50 raffle tickets and gift baskets and hosted pot luck dinners on the various shifts with food donated by employees. Help Day efforts in Pennsylvania wrapped up with a luncheon on June 9 with hamburgers and hotdogs.
"We are an international company with sites in 27 countries, but we also have strong regional roots. This gives us the opportunity to look beyond the boundaries of the plant and exercise an important aspect of our corporate responsibility. We put this neighborhood idea into practice with our annual NORMA Help Day activities," said Tim Jones, president of NORMA Americas.
This was the second annual NORMA Help Day for NORMA Americas employees in the U.S. Please visit the website www.normagroup.com/cr for more information on Corporate Responsibility at NORMA Group and refer to the 2013 Corporate Responsibility Report. The next CR Report will be published this year.
