Noom's Platform is the First to Offer Spanish Diabetes Prevention and Healthy Weight Management Programs to Help Address the Growing Prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity Among Hispanic Americans
Noom's multi-language capabilities span six structured programs that are available in five different languages.
NEW YORK, Jan. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Noom Inc., the leader in mobile health coaching, is the first to offer fully Spanish behavior change programs that address prediabetes and obesity.
Noom's Spanish diabetes prevention and healthy weight management programs have helped expand the reach and accessibility of lifestyle interventions among Hispanic Americans who are at increased risk of developing these conditions. Noom's robust food database, program-specific curriculum content and program features are now all translated in Spanish, and supported by a native Spanish-speaking health coach.
According to the American Heart Association, Hispanics and Latinos face even higher risks of cardiovascular diseases caused by conditions like high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Hispanic Americans are approximately 50% more likely to die from diabetes than non-Hispanic caucasian Americans. According to the CDC, while 40% of US adults are expected to develop type 2 diabetes over their lifetimes, that number is even higher for Hispanic men and women—more than 50%.
"Noom's platform and scalable behavior change programs are designed to meet people where they are -- on their mobile phones -- while addressing the diverse needs of any population," said Saeju Jeong, CEO and Co-founder at Noom.
The multi-language capability of Noom's platform expands beyond Spanish to include Korean, Japanese and German, in addition to English. Noom's structured programs span the acuity spectrum and include: healthy weight management, diabetes prevention, diabetes management, hypertension prevention, hypertension management, and comorbid diabetes and hypertension management.
While Noom's pre-chronic programs are available directly to consumers, both Noom's pre-chronic and chronic programs are available to enterprise customers. Large employers, health plans, providers, and systems have leveraged Noom's platform to prevent and manage chronic disease, resulting in improved health outcomes, higher productivity, and lower healthcare costs. Noom is also a member of the Solera Health integrated network in which eligible participants can elect to participate in an English or Spanish version of Noom's diabetes prevention program.
