Noom Sponsors Team US In Walking With The Wounded's Allied South Pole Challenge
NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Noom Inc., the New York-based wellness technology maker, joined forces with UK-based charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) as a sponsor of Team US in WWTW's Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge, taking place in November and December 2013. The US Team, called Team Noom Coach and led by adventurer Inge Solheim and actor Alexander Skarsgard, will join the UK Team led by Prince Harry and the Commonwealth Team (Australia and Canada) led by actor Dominic West, as they race to the Geographic South Pole.
All three expedition teams are comprised of wounded servicemen and women such as US Air Force veteran Therese Frentz and USO veteran Margaux Mange who both served in Iraq. Walking With The Wounded stages these extreme expeditions to illustrate the extraordinary determination and courage of injured soldiers – inspiring people everywhere -- while raising awareness for the organization, which funds retraining and reeducation of the military -- both veterans and those leaving The Armed Forces.
"Noom is proud to be a part of the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge," said CEO Saeju Jeong. "The determination and courage of these wounded servicemen and women can inspire all of us to make positive changes in our lives."
During the competition, which begins at 87 degrees S high on the Antarctic polar plateau on November 30, the teams are expected to face the toughest conditions on Earth, covering more than 200 miles in temperatures as low as -40 degrees C. With each team member expected to ski for 10-12 hours every day hauling 175lbs for 16 days -- nutrition is a vital component to their success. Along their journey the teams will use Noom's mobile apps to track the estimated 6,000 calories per day they will need to consume to remain strong throughout the competition.
Noom's app will track each team's nutrition as well as their total number of steps in their journey. Noom's mobile apps are available in the Google Play store and for iPhone in US, UK, German, Japanese, Australian, Canadian and Korean editions.
