AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF) is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Texas Animal Hall of Fame. Through the Texas Animal Hall of Fame, TVMF has the privilege of recognizing a few of our incredible animal companions each year while also celebrating the human-animal bond with veterinarians and the public. If you have treated or know of an animal that has displayed heroism or remarkable loyalty or service, please take the time to nominate them today. There are three categories for entry:

Hero: An animal that has performed an incredible act of bravery or saved a human life
Companion: An animal that has provided a special benefit to its community or human companions
Professional: A remarkable, specially trained assistance animal
Requirements
Nominees must be animals that, through unselfish and courageous accomplishment, exemplify the affection, loyalty, security and value of the human-animal bond.
Each nomination for induction into the Texas Animal Hall of Fame is to be submitted on an official application, with the signature of the animal's owner/steward and veterinarian. Applications for each year are typically available in June and are due to be received in the TVMF office by September 15.
Attached to the nomination application should be a letter describing why the animal should be considered for induction into the Texas Animal Hall of Fame. You may wish to explain how the animal exhibited special abilities and/or courageous or unselfish behavior, examples of the animal's affection, loyalty and companionship or the ways in which it provides healthful benefits, confidence or opportunities for exercise, socialization or laughter. The veterinary sponsor may include up to three additional letters of support for the animal's membership in the hall. At least two to three photos of the animal are also requested.
The actions or accomplishments of the animal must have occurred between July 15, 2012, and July 15, 2013, for induction as past of the 2013 Texas Animal Hall of Fame class. The animal and its owner must live primarily in Texas, and they must also be available to receive the award and participate in the public recognition activities at no expense to the Foundation.
