Nolan Ryan Pitches In, Debuts New River Campaign
Spring Break kicks off New Braunfels environmental stewardship campaign to preserve rivers in Texas' favorite family vacation destination
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, April 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nolan Ryan, Hall of Fame pitcher, president and CEO of the Texas Rangers and formerly a Texas Parks & Wildlife Commissioner, says "pitch in" to help preserve the Comal and Guadalupe rivers in New Braunfels and all Texas rivers.
"We are just thrilled to have Nolan Ryan help us deliver this new environmental stewardship message to help keep our rivers clean and healthy," said Judy Young, Director, New Braunfels Convention and Visitors Bureau. "His commitment to the natural environment of Texas is a perfect fit and helps us communicate the heart of this campaign – save Texas rivers for future generations to enjoy as we have for decades."
The "Pitch In" campaign encourages everyone to be more proactive in controlling the litter that accumulates in Texas rivers. Modeled after the "Don't Mess with Texas" highway litter prevention program, the new campaign focuses on the power of people to make positive changes to protect Texas rivers.
New Braunfels is adding more trash containers, recycling stations, park rangers and signage to help visitors keep disposable litter out of the rivers and encourage the use of non-disposable containers via a new website: www.watertherules.com. This website provides comprehensive information on what is allowed and disallowed on the rivers. There is also a Questions Form so if the answer is not on the site, questions can be submitted and then once answered, added to the FAQ section. The website includes maps and other useful information for protecting not only the Comal and Guadalupe rivers in New Braunfels, but all Texas rivers.
"We're just saying, be cool, in and out of the rivers," said Young. "It's really simple, put your trash in a trash can or recycling bin, take a trash bag with you, pick up trash wherever you see it, no matter who left it. When you see someone throw trash in a river or start to, nicely offer to take it and dispose of it properly, and thank people you see stashing their trash properly!"
The new public service announcement featuring Nolan Ryan "pitching in" to keep litter out of New Braunfels rivers is available to air throughout Texas.
Texans consistently rank the New Braunfels area as one of their favorite vacation destinations because of the variety of summer activities. Young says the area offers a great value for families looking for an economical, affordable getaway for Spring Break and summer vacations.
More than a million people vacation in the area every summer enjoying skiing and wakeboarding at the Texas Ski Ranch, live music venues like Whitewater Music Amphitheater and Gruene Hall, historic downtown New Braunfels, adventure at Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch, the Texas Hill Country wineries and the New Braunfels local culture, festivals and special event attractions.
