NobleStrategy to Evaluate Local Contractors for MTA's Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot
NEW YORK, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as part of its on-going commitment to increase MBE and WBE participation on MTA contracts has contracted with Silverite Construction Company, Inc. (The Contractor) to increase M/WBE participation on the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot Project in Harlem, New York. NobleStrategy, a certified MBE construction management and training firm with offices in Harlem and New Jersey, has been selected to evaluate Harlem-based businesses for subcontract work on this project. In collaboration with the Empire State Development Corporation, NobleStrategy, the Harlem Business Alliance, and the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce will conduct outreach initiatives to identify certified and qualified M/WBE firms; and to certify Harlem-based businesses qualified to work on this and future MTA projects.
"The Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot represents a tremendous opportunity for local businesses and we are committed to providing the MTA with the most reliable firms in Harlem," said William S. Parrish, Jr., President & CEO of NobleStrategy. "But a key focus of this endeavor is to think beyond the needs of the bus depot and to increase the number of New York State certified companies within the Harlem community. As a Harlem business ourselves that has worked extensively with New York City, we are very familiar with the local construction talent and capabilities in the community."
NobleStrategy will be holding several outreach programs to educate Harlem businesses about project requirements and to provide the necessary assistance for qualified firms to achieve New York State certification for the bus depot and future projects. NobleStrategy will research contractor databases, screen potential firms and provide technical assistance to enable firms to attain certification.
Plans for the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot, located at 721 Lenox Avenue in Central Harlem, call for the former depot to be replaced with a new environmentally responsible building, featuring a three-story, 70-foot aboveground structure, which will house 125 buses. All buses will use ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and many of the buses will be hybrid-electric vehicles or other low-emissions technology buses. The new depot will allow more parking spaces for local residents, since bus and employee parking will be provided onsite. The new facility will seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
