No Tuition Increase at Western Governors University in 2010
Online University Holds Undergraduate Tuition at $5,890 per Year
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah , April 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While both traditional and online universities across the country are announcing tuition increases for 2010 of as much as 8%, private non-profit Western Governors University, www.wgu.edu, has announced that it will continue to buck the trend by not increasing tuition through the remainder of the year. Tuition at the online, competency-based university is $5,780 per year for most undergraduate programs and has only increased by $200 in the past four years.

The announcement comes as enrollment in WGU's four colleges — Business, Teachers College, Information Technology, and Healthcare, including Nursing — is growing by approximately 30% per year. The only competency-based university in the U.S., WGU offers more than 50 fully-accredited bachelor's, post-baccalaureate, and master's degrees in high-demand career fields. Flexible and affordable, WGU is ideal for career-minded adults with work and family obligations, and students may begin their studies on the first of any month.
"Providing access to a high-quality, challenging education that's affordable is a primary element of our mission at WGU," said WGU's Vice President of Marketing & Enrollment Patrick Partridge. "For individuals who are considering going back to school to complete a bachelor's or master's degree and advance their careers, WGU is an outstanding value."
Tuition at WGU is comparable to a state college or university and is roughly half the cost of other online universities. In addition to financial aid, WGU offers a number of scholarships in all degree areas. In the past 12 months, the university has awarded more than $2.9 million in scholarships.
