"It is with profound sadness that the National League of Cities offers it condolences to the victims and their families of the tragic shooting at the monthly board of supervisors meeting in Ross Township, Pa. We also offer our heartfelt gratitude to the local official and resident who risked their lives to stop the gunman, and by doing so likely saved the lives of many of their fellow citizens. We thank them for their bravery and courage.
We find it especially disheartening that this occurred at a township meeting, where residents engage in the most basic democratic activity of discussing community needs and concerns. We hope that residents will not be dissuaded from attending in the future and continue to participate in their community affairs.
On behalf of city leaders across the country, we offer our prayers and support to the community and its residents."
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
