Model programs will demonstrate effective management of municipal resources producing tangible benefits for the community. Nominated programs are evaluated on innovation, success implementing the program and measurable benefits to the local government and overall community.
"There are many outstanding programs that enhance the quality of municipal service in communities. These programs verify and validate strong city innovation and should be recognized and shared with the rest of the nation," said Donald Borut, NLC executive director. "Our country's current financial situation demonstrates the importance of cities finding alternative and creative ways to more effectively serve citizens."
Finalists for each category will be announced this summer and the eight winners will be announced and recognized during NLC's annual Congress of Cities in Denver, Colo., November 30-December 4, 2010.
Each nominating city must be an NLC member and cannot submit more than two program nominations per city. More information on the Awards and nomination process is available at http://www.nlc.org/ame.aspx. Nominations must be postmarked by May 5.
