FRANKLIN, Tenn., Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Computers, the electric car, music — some of the world's best ideas have been born in garages. To celebrate "everyday ideas" and inspire the creation of the next great innovation, Nissan is launching "Nissan Innovation Garage," a social movement that offers everyone an opportunity to showcase their best ideas.

Beginning today, aspiring innovators will be asked "Wouldn't it be cool if____?" and Nissan could help bring their ideas to life. Each idea submitted online at www.NissanInnovationGarage.com will be reviewed and voted on by a panel of judges that will include established engineers from a variety of fields. Two grand prize winners will be selected to receive a $50,000 grant to turn their idea into a reality, as well as a brand new 2013 Altima. Nissan will also help unleash winning ideas on Kickstarter.com, the world's largest funding platform for creative projects.
"People from all walks of life have great ideas each and every day, and we think it's important to nurture the spirit of innovation," said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America. "By finding, cultivating and supporting the best and brightest ideas, we will give those who care about making the world around them a better place, the platform in which to do so."
In addition, ideas will be showcased in an online gallery and a "fan favorite" will be awarded Nissan's most innovative Altima yet. To create a shareable experience and help innovators generate fan votes, each idea will turn into a short, customized film to share with friends. Submissions will be accepted through October 12. A brief introductory video regarding the project is available on YouTube.
Building on its "Innovation that excites" philosophy, Nissan's hunt for the next great innovation was inspired by the all-new fifth generation Altima – the most innovative Altima yet – which promises to shake up the mid-size sedan segment with its interior innovations and styling. Among the 2013 Altima's many attributes are its best-in-segment fuel economy of 38 mpg highway (2.5-liter engine), new premium exterior styling, an upscale interior with premium materials, including NASA-inspired "zero-gravity" front seats, and an outstanding balance of ride comfort, stability and a fun-to-drive demeanor.
