Nine Smart Kids Ready to Challenge Local Celebrities Saturday Evening
Student "classroom" for "Are You Smarter Than A Greenville County Schools Fifth Grader?" fund-raiser announced
GREENVILLE, S.C., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- As Greenville County students head back to school this week, nine of the best and brightest are also preparing to outsmart local celebrities on Saturday evening at the Carolina First Center in Greenville. Selected randomly from top fifth grade graduates across the district, these students will be the "class" for this weekend's school fund-raiser, "Are You Smarter Than A Greenville County Schools Fifth Grader?" The student contestants, in alphabetical order, are:
- DaVonte Blakely, graduate of Monaview Elementary and rising sixth grader at Lakeview Middle
- Anna Scott Cameron, graduate of Blythe Academy and rising sixth grader at Greenville Middle Academy
- Fariha Islam, graduate of Oakview Elementary and rising sixth grader at Beck Academy
- Cole Kirby, graduate of Buena Vista Elementary and rising sixth grader at Northwood Middle
- Brianna Lewis, rising sixth grader at Sterling School (K-8)
- Mario Narvaez, graduate of Robert E. Cashion Elementary and rising sixth grader at Hughes Academy
- Darian Robinson, graduate of Bryson Elementary and rising sixth grader at Bryson Middle
- Makayla Stokes, graduate of Skyland Elementary and rising sixth grader at Blue Ridge Middle
- Colton Vaughan, graduate of Fountain Inn Elementary and rising sixth grader at Bryson Middle
The fund-raising event will be held at the Carolina First Center on Saturday, Aug. 21. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The game begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $6 for children 12 and under. Admission includes a hot dog supper and an evening of family fun. Underwritten by Michelin, 100 percent of all funds raised go directly to Greenville County public schools.
