Nine Houston Teachers Win Back-to-School Shopping Spree at the 99 Cents Only Store, along with One Grand Prize Winner of $9,999.99 to Help Pay Off Student Loan Debt

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif., Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- 99 Cents Only Stores kicked off the back to school season by rewarding nine local Houston school teachers with a 99 second shopping spree and surprising one lucky teacher with a check for $9,999.99 to help pay off teacher student loan debt.

The nine shopping spree winners were:

  • Ana Sanchez, a TOPS teacher from Thurgood Marshall High School
  • Miriam Mayes, a Math Ancillary teacher and Interventionist at Hobby Elementary School
  • Brittany Alyssa Stewart, a first-year middle school science teacher at Owens Intermediate School
  • Katherine Lange, a teacher at B.F. Terry High School
  • Michele Rodriguez, a teacher at KIPP Explore Academy
  • Candace Stakes, a sixth-grade teacher at James H. Baker School
  • Tina Anderson, a kindergarten-fourth-grade Special Education teacher and Resource/Inclusion teacher at CJ Harris Elementary School
  • Deborah Mendez, a teacher at Cypress Springs High School
  • Joshua Martin, a first-grade teacher from Frost Elementary School. Joshua also won a check for $9,999.99 to contribute to paying off any teacher student loan debt

The teachers will each have 99 seconds to fill up their baskets full of supplies, and will be able to keep every item they grab. The shopping sprees will take place at the Almeda-Genoa Road location on August 10. That weekend also marks the beginning of the Texas sales tax holiday, when many school supply staples including binders, calculators, notebooks, highlighters and more will be available tax free!
