Niles (Illinois) Zoning Commission Hands Bloomberg Moms A Major Defeat
CHICAGO, July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):
Niles, Illinois is one step closer to having a state-of-the-art pistol range and gun shop in town thanks to a 5-2 vote in favor of the facility cast by the zoning commission Monday evening. The full Niles Village Council will vote on the final proposal later this month.
The zoning commission vote served as a stinging blow to efforts by the Bloomberg Moms to crush the proposed shop and range. Numerous representatives of the Moms organization were on hand to offer testimony to the commission as to why the special use permit ought not be granted. Whereas the commission was looking for factual testimony, the Moms relied on emotional pleas, innuendo, and attacks on the character of the pistol range/gun shop promoters to make their case against the facility. In the end, the commissioners would have none of the Moms' nonsense and, absent any fact-based reason to bar the facility, voted to pass the proposal back to the full village council.
"Monday night's vote was enormously important," said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "The happenings in Niles will have statewide – if not nationwide – implications for entrepreneurs wishing to engage in the lawful sale of firearms. Likewise, Monday's vote should offer a painful lesson to those in the gun control movement. That lesson being that lying will get you nowhere – fast."
The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.
