Night Train Swimmers Team Up with Mexico's Best Open Water Swimmers to Attempt World Record Relay Swim
182 KM Swim Across Sea of Cortez will Benefit Wounded Warrior Project
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 24, Night Train Swimmers will again attempt to break the world record of 125 KM for the longest continuous relay swim. Last year's effort was stopped due to severe weather conditions and safety concerns. This year, the swim will benefit Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors.
The first swimmer will depart from the shores of Baja, 36 miles south east of La Paz, at the world famous GranSueno resort (www.GranSueno.com). The relay team will swim non-stop across the Sea of Cortez and expects to arrive at mainland Mexico 70 hours later.
To monitor their progress, live GPS tracking as well as streaming video will be available at www.swimseaofcortez2010.com. The team will also keep an updated blog and photo gallery.
Vito Bialla, a Vietnam veteran and CEO of Bialla & Assoc. says, "By completing this swim and raising money for Wounded Warrior Project, we can make a huge difference for our injured heroes when they return home. It's an absolute privilege to help our returning wounded warriors."
The team of six swimmers consists of Bialla, Paul Lundgren, Christine Gonzalez and three of Mexico's best open water swimmers Nora Toledano, Monica Ramirez and Edna Llorens. The swim will be supervised by Steve Munatones, one of the highest ranking Fina officials in the world. Fina is the international governing body of swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming. For more information on the swimmers and Steve, please visit www.swimseaofcortez2010.com.
The GranSueno resort is providing further incentive to join the cause. From now until March 30th, the luxury hideaway in Baja California Sur, Mexico is offering interested parties the opportunity to make a fully tax deductible donation of $10,000 and receive a week of free accommodations in one of the resort's nine private villas. All proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. Unlimited food and beverages, transportation, golf, tennis, kayaks, snorkeling, equestrian facilities and one spa treatment are included in this package.
