NickersonPR Debuts Communications Training Series for Public Safety Professionals
Dan Riviello, Public Relations Manager, NickersonPR, to provide communications, media relations, and social media training to public servants
WALTHAM, Mass., March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- NickersonPR has announced that Dan Riviello, Public Relations Manager at NickersonPR, has developed a series of training events designed to help public safety professionals manage their message and effectively relay information. The first training event will take place at the Cambridge Police Department on Friday, April 4th, 2014.
Police, fire, and public safety professionals are trained to be prepared for any situation they may encounter but are often ill-equipped to handle the media and effectively communicate information to the public. NickersonPR's Public Safety Communications Training Series will provide public safety officials with the tools necessary to effectively communicate their message to the media and public during both positive and negative events.
"We look forward to being the first police department to host what I anticipate to be a very valuable communications training series," said Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas. "As our former Communications Director, Dan was a great asset to our department and I encourage my public safety colleagues to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn all they can about communications, media relations, and how to effectively use social media to benefit the local community."
Before joining NickersonPR, Riviello served as the Director of Communications and Media Relations at the Cambridge Police Department. During this time, Riviello revolutionized how the Cambridge Police shared information with the public, gaining a Twitter following of over 16,000 and working to provide timely and accurate information to the media and public during the Boston Marathon bombing and aftermath.
During this training, Riviello will draw upon his experience as a public safety communications professional to share the tips, tricks, and techniques departments should use to approach media relations. Riviello will expand upon the topics of risk management planning, managing crisis public relations and the importance of social media in public safety today.
Last year, Riviello received the "Outstanding Service Award" from the U.S. Department of Justice, F.B.I. for outstanding service to the FBI's Boston Division and the Office of Public Affairs, National Press Office during the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Registration for the first event of this training series on April 4th is now open. To register, click here.
