Nick Jonas and Bayer Diabetes Care Enable Winners of the 'Give Back. Simply Win.' Contest to Realize Their Dream to Help Others
Grand Prize Winners Receive a $5,000 Donation to Charity of Their Choice
TARRYTOWN, N.Y., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Three people living with diabetes can realize their dream to help others thanks to Nick Jonas and Bayer Diabetes Care's "Give Back. Simply Win." Contest. Sponsored by Bayer Diabetes Care, the contest aimed to shine a spotlight on people with diabetes who are making a difference in their local communities. The grand prize is a meeting with Nick Jonas and a donation by Bayer of $5,000 to three not-for-profit charitable causes, one selected by each winner.
Bayer's "Give Back. Simply Win." Contest was designed to reward people with diabetes for their charitable efforts. The contest was open to people with diabetes in three age categories: 6 to 12, 13 to 17 and 18+ years. Contestants could visit www.NicksSimpleWins.com and answer three questions about their charitable efforts. Team Jonas reviewed the entries and selected one grand prize winner from each of the three age categories.
The grand prize winners are:
- Gavin L., age six, from Phoenix, AZ. Gavin's charity is the Surfrider Foundation. He is dedicated to educating people about protecting and preserving our oceans.
- Risha S., age 14, from Irvine, CA. Risha chose to support the Kids Who Care Foundation (KWCF), which aims to bring joy to children faced with a major surgery and/or medical condition.
- Elizabeth M., age 34, from Queens Village, NY. Through Divabetic, Elizabeth plans to organize a 'Diabetes Diva Party' in New York to celebrate people with diabetes.
Bayer Diabetes Care and Nick Jonas created the "Give Back. Simply Win." Contest as part of their ongoing partnership that also intends to help inform and motivate people with diabetes. Since the announcement of their partnership in 2008, Nick, who has type 1 diabetes and uses the Bayer CONTOUR® USB meter to monitor his blood sugar, and Bayer have taken steps to inspire young people with diabetes to achieve Simple Wins: small, everyday victories for managing diabetes that can lead to big differences over time.
"Bayer and I created this contest to call attention to people with diabetes who are giving back to their communities and thank them for their work," said Nick Jonas, a paid spokesperson for Bayer Diabetes Care. "This contest is especially close to my heart because I really value volunteerism and charity. I'm so inspired by Gavin, Risha and Elizabeth and the rest of the contestants for the good work they are doing in their communities and know they will keep inspiring others to do the same."
