Nick G. Saros Joins Jenner & Block as a Partner in Los Angeles Office
CHICAGO, Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Jenner & Block today announced that experienced intellectual property litigator Nick G. Saros has joined the Firm as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Mr. Saros' practice focuses primarily on patent infringement litigation and he also has experience in matters involving trademark, trade dress, copyright and other related complex intellectual property issues.
Mr. Saros has been involved in all aspects of patent litigation cases from inception through jury verdict and appeal, including witness examination at trial, argument at Markman hearings and other hearings, presentation of technology tutorials to the court, taking and defending fact and expert depositions and preparation of litigation and trial strategy for claim construction, infringement and invalidity positions. He has also provided intellectual property counseling to various corporate clients.

Among Mr. Saros' significant accomplishments, he was a key member of the team that represented a prominent surgeon/inventor in a patent infringement dispute with biomedical device manufacturer Medtronic Sofamor Danek. After a three month trial, the jury awarded Mr. Saros' client $560 million; the suit ultimately settled for $1.35 billion to Mr. Saros' client, one of the largest patent settlements in United States history. The case was featured in The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel magazines.

Mr. Saros received his J.D., Order of the Coif, in 2000, from Loyola Law School Los Angeles, where he was a Fritz Burns Scholarship recipient. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1993.
From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Saros was a structural design engineer at Northrop Grumman Corp., working on the B-2 Stealth Bomber and from 1995 to 1998, he worked as a structural design engineer for Hughes Space & Communications. Immediately prior to joining Jenner & Block, Mr. Saros was a partner in the Los Angeles office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
In 2010, Mr. Saros was named a "Southern California Rising Star" in Intellectual Property Litigation by Super Lawyers. He is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Northern Districts of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Since opening in the Spring of 2009, Jenner & Block's Los Angeles office has steadily expanded. Recent lateral partner hires in that office have included Jerry Oshinsky, often referred to as the "Dean" of the insurance policyholder bar; Ken Lee, a former Associate White House Counsel; and Andrew J. "A.J." Thomas, recently named to the L.A. Business Journal's "Who's Who in Law" as a leading entertainment industry lawyer. The office has also grown with the addition of senior associates and former federal judicial clerks.
