Niagara Contest Offers A Wonder"fall" Opportunity
UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., May 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- You can't paint the White House blue. You can't color the Golden Gate Bridge green. But this year, the makers of Thompson's®Water Seal®products will give you the chance to re"deck"orate one world-famous American icon, along with a trip to admire your results in person.

To celebrate their long-term partnership with Niagara Falls State Park, The Thompson's Company is debuting the "Stain The Hurricane" drawing to award the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to choose the new stain color for one of the world's most famous decks: the Hurricane Deck at Niagara Falls, USA. The winner will choose the color to be applied for the 2013 season, and will also win a trip to Niagara Falls in 2013 to see the results first-hand.
The Hurricane Deck is the pinnacle of a series of connected decks at Niagara Falls, collectively called the Cave of the Winds decks. Each year, almost 500,000 visitors enjoy stunning views and experience the raw power of Niagara Falls from the decks. The top deck gets its name because of winds up to 80 mph and a non-stop drenching from the Falls. The Hurricane Deck lets guests stand just 15 feet from the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls.
"Over the past seven years, we've donated thousands of gallons of Thompson's®Water Seal®Deck & House Waterproofing Stain in California Redwood for use on the Cave of the Winds decks," said Mike Kozlowski, Director of Marketing for Thompson's Water Seal. "They have been building the decks at Niagara Falls since 1920, and we believe red is the only color they've used. We thought this would be a fun way to remind consumers that deck stains come in many colors."
From May 1-September 3, 2012, aspiring exterior designers can visit www.facebook.com/thompsonswaterseal, to enter the "Stain The Hurricane" drawing. The winner will choose from 16 colors of Thompson's Water Seal Deck & House Waterproofing Stain, and their chosen shade will be applied to new wood for the Hurricane Deck over the winter of 2013, with the new deck unveiled spring 2013. (One of the most unusual features of the Cave of the Winds decks is that the decks are built "from scratch" every spring and taken down in the fall. If the decks were left in place over the winter, the ice buildup from the spray of the falls would crush the wood. Some of the lumber is reused and new wood is stained as needed over the winter.)
The winner will select from these shades of Thompson's Water Seal Deck & House Waterproofing Stain for the Hurricane Deck:
Arbor Green, Black Walnut, Brickstone, Bronzed Brown, Cedartone, Cocoa, Colonial Blue,
Cypress Green, Douglas Fir, Evergreen, Hawthorne, Hickory Ash, Olive Wood, Pewter Gray,
Sierra Brown, Terra Cotta.
