NHTSA Head David Strickland To Address Current And Future Auto Industry Policies At MPG Meeting
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Jan. 8, Motor Press Guild (MPG), the largest automotive media association in North America, will host David L. Strickland, Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) during its monthly meeting at The Proud Bird Restaurant. As the country's top automotive safety official, Strickland will discuss current and future policy changes and concerns that affect the dynamic automotive industry.
Since taking office in January 2010, Strickland has supported NHTSA's mission of reducing crash-related injuries and fatalities with his help in establishing ejection mitigation requirements for automakers. He has also ensured the highest standards of safety on the nation's roadways through public awareness of child passenger safety issues, including the threat of heat stroke in hot cars, and issues surrounding child safety on the outside of vehicles. To that end, Strickland has initiated a rear-view visibility proposal to help eliminate blind spots and protect pedestrians.
"Vehicles are now safer than ever due in large part to regulations set forth by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As new technology is introduced and the population grows, NHTSA faces many opportunities and challenges. We look forward to hearing Mr. Strickland's perspective on these issues," said Laura Burstein, president, Motor Press Guild.
Strickland currently oversees all vehicle safety and policymaking programs under NHTSA's jurisdiction, from fuel economy regulations to odometer fraud to safety recalls and investigations. He also leads the agency's public awareness and education efforts on driving under the influence, seat belt use and pedestrian safety.
