The Good Neighbor Award showcases ground-breaking new and newly rehabbed or redeveloped properties in the Chicago metropolitan region that have increased economic vibrancy in the neighborhoods and bolstered local pride. Many winning properties offer unique amenities and facilities, and take exceptional care to ensure the property blends in with or otherwise compliments the surrounding streetscapes.
The Good Neighbor Award was accepted on NHS' behalf by Nikkitta McCoy, former Project Development Associate with NHS Redevelopment Corporation. Roseland Place is located in the Roseland Community in Chicago's south side at 104th and Michigan Avenue, is a 60 unit apartment building for Independent living for seniors. The Apartments create a welcoming, home-style environment that improves the quality of life for Roseland seniors and the entire community. The 60-unit L-shaped structure is adjacent to the "Grandfamily" building, a two-story, multigenerational affordable apartment building also developed by NHS. Together with the existing supportive living facility, they form the Roseland Senior Campus -- a LEED certified development featuring solar hot water, Energy Star appliances and low flow plumbing.
Roseland place and the entire senior campus provide a home-style environment, in a gated community that aims to improve the quality of life for Roseland seniors and the entire community. The senior campus has a garden and play space for grandchildren to nurture a sense of community and promote senior wellness. "We were proud to work alongside award-winning architect, Landon Bone Baker Architects in partnership with Mercy Housing Lakefront Property to build and manage this valuable property for the residents of the Roseland community. The spaces are comfortable, yet attractive, secure, yet livable, and provide seniors a vital environment that will keep them rooted in the community as they age," said Ed Jacob, Executive Director, NHS of Chicago.
