Gawande, Goldsmith, MedPAC Executive Director are among Distinguished Presenters
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization has a lineup of distinguished plenary speakers planned for its 27th annual Management and Leadership Conference to be held March 29-31, 2012, at the Gaylord National Harbor Convention Center.

Confirmed plenary speakers:
Atul Gawande, M.D., surgeon, writer and public health researcher will present on Thursday afternoon, March 29. In his highly acclaimed article published in the July 2010 New Yorker, Dr. Gawande challenged the status quo of our current healthcare system. He recognizes the contributions of hospice in creating a new framework for how people die and he will share his thoughts on how we can bring the hospice and palliative care philosophy to the broader healthcare system.
Marshall Goldsmith, Ph.D., will lead the opening plenary session on Thursday morning, March 29, discussing leadership based on his best-selling book, What Got You Here Won't Get You There.
Mark Miller, Ph.D., executive director of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission will present on March 30 and discuss factors influencing reimbursement of end-of-life care.
J. Donald Schumacher, PsyD, with more than 30 years experience in the field, NHPCO president and CEO will follow Dr. Miller and discuss challenges and opportunities facing the hospice and palliative care field in the year ahead.
Diana Whitney, Ph.D., founder and president of the Corporation for Positive Change and author of The Power of Appreciative Inquiry, will speak on March 31 about ways positive leadership can help organizations thrive.
Conference events include one of the industry's largest exhibit halls.
NHPCO's affiliate organization, Hospice Action Network, will host its annual Capitol Hill Day event on March 28; one of two advocacy events for 2012. There is no charge for conference attendees and NHPCO members to attend Hill Day.
On Friday evening, March 30, the National Hospice Foundation will host its annual gala. This year's theme, "Celebrating the Women of Hospice: A Salute to Heroines and Humanitarians."
