ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National attention has focused on the devastating flooding in Louisiana this past week. The Red Cross reports that this is the worst natural disaster to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Sandy. Among the devastation to homes and businesses and the untold number of people hurt and displaced by flooding, the hospice community in the region has been drastically affected.
"Twenty Louisiana parishes have been devastated by floods over the past week with more than 1,000 hospice patients and numerous hospice agency employees living in the federally declared disaster area," reports Jamey Boudreaux, executive director of the Louisiana Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
In the wake of the disaster, NHPCO is supporting the needs of the hospice and palliative care community in the region through a donation to the LMHPCO Flood Relief Fund. Donations to LMHPCO Flood Relief Fund will be matched up to $20,000.
"NHPCO is making this donation and matching fund opportunity available to LMHPCO to support its response and the recovery efforts of local providers," said J. Donald Schumacher, NHPCO president and CEO. "We hope people will consider making donations knowing that a gift will be doubled up to the match amount."
Donations should be made by check payable to LMHPCO and mailed to:
