NFI Launches Dish on Fish Blog and Social Channels, for Seafood Education Initiative
NFI encourages consumers to eat seafood twice a week on consumer-focused Site
MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As a key part of its new initiative to educate Americans about the benefits and enjoyment of eating seafood, the National Fisheries Institute this week is expanding its online reach with the launch of a consumer-focused seafood blog, Dish on Fish; with supporting Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter channels.
Dish on Fish is an initiative sponsored by the NFI to encourage Americans to eat seafood at least twice a week, as recommended by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
"Dish on Fish is a vehicle for NFI to communicate directly with U.S. consumers, food bloggers and health professionals, such as R.D.'s, about the importance of eating seafood at least twice a week," said Judy Dashiell, Senior Vice President with the National Fisheries Institute. "We hope to inspire people who eat and prepare seafood to choose it more frequently, both at home and in restaurants. We're focused on generating content that is conversation-worthy – like recipes and nutrition tips – while also participating in other online discussions about industry trends, topics and issues."
Planned blog content includes nutritional information on seafood; tips on buying, storing and preparing seafood; recipes; selected health and nutrition news; and expert guest commentary, anchored by NFI's Rima Kleiner, MS, RD.
As a spokesperson for the NFI, Kleiner, a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian and Nutritionist, helps the public connect the consumption of seafood with its myriad of health benefits – from heart and brain health to healthy pregnancy and infant development.
Regular features on Dish on Fish will include seafood fun facts, a wide variety of recipes and nutritional information and advice that will have particular relevance for families. In addition, the site will offer meal plans demonstrating how to effortlessly bring seafood into the schedule at least twice a week.
Key seafood education messages from Dish on Fish will be shared and amplified through the initiative's social media channels, including Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, Dashiell said. Plans also are in the works for promotional partnerships with notable food and nutrition bloggers.
