Nexusguard Addresses Key Issues Concerning Next-Gen DDos Mitigation Solutions at CIO Roundtable
Business leaders share insights at "Distributed Denial of Service - An Industry Update" forum on current information security climate
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Nexusguard's CTO Reggie Yam and Researcher Frank Tse sat down with a group of C-level executives to discuss key issues in today's information security landscape at a roundtable hosted by CIO Matrix. These business leaders gathered at the "Distributed Denial of Service - An Industry Update" forum to share their insights on overseeing information security in their respective businesses, which included Fortune 100 companies in logistics, insurance, IT, finance and legal services.
While most of the companies already have an information security strategy, few of them had dedicated resources to defend against DDoS attacks. Some attendees were not aware that DDoS attacks posed a significant threat to a business' ability to provide services to customers; others admitted that DDoS mitigation requires significant resources, and consequently are not implemented. Although these executives saw DDoS defense as part of an integrated security compliance and assessment, few of them realized that DDoS has the potential to become the gravest threat for businesses reliant upon the Internet.
Discussions at this intimate event mainly revolved around the damage caused by complex DDoS attacks--including application layer attacks, 0-day attacks and 1-day attacks--and how difficult it has become for the "good guys" to catch up with the technology and techniques used by attackers. Most were surprised to learn that traditional anti-DDoS measures are becoming increasingly ineffective against sophisticated DDoS tools and techniques; many were intrigued by Nexusguard's next generation anti-DDoS technology, which is based on proactive monitoring and traffic profiling.
Yam explained that proactive monitoring is the first step toward an effective DDoS mitigation strategy. Information security covers a broad range of issues, so it is difficult to find a security service provider that can cover all aspects. Nevertheless, Nexusguard believes that information security is critical for any modern business, and that no component in the security chain should be taken lightly. After all, a system is only as strong as its weakest link. Yam proposed to attendees a framework for ensuring business continuity in the Age of the Internet: monitoring, mitigation, governance and user experience.
The event was a great platform for all parties to exchange ideas about the rising implication of DDoS on modern businesses. These discussions led to the consensus that DDoS attacks have become a pressing issue for any organization that values the security of its data and services.
