NextHealth's predictive analytics platform doubles accuracy in predicting Medicaid patient emergency department utilization
DENVER, March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, NextHealth Technologies confirmed with client data that their predictive analytics technology platform predicts Medicaid patient emergency department visits more than twice as well as methods based on leading commercial risk grouper results. "Being able to more accurately predict high risk of repeat emergency department use, especially among relatively healthy members, enables Medicaid programs like ours to proactively share information about ER visit alternatives with our members who are most likely to benefit from it," said Kelley Vivian, Community Strategies Director for Community Health Partnership. NextHealth's predictive technology platform applies new predictive analytics algorithms that materially improve traditional analytic methods by using new sources of information more effectively to make more accurate predictions. NextHealth's technology not only considers medical condition and diagnostic codes and patient socio-demographics, but also exploits patterns in individual utilization history to dramatically improve predictions of future use. These patterns and predictors are combined using machine learning algorithms from NextHealth that integrate predictions from state-of-the-art predictive analytics algorithms such as random forest, gradient boosting, support vector machines, and Bayesian predictors.
