NextAlarm Finalizes Major Upgrade to Alarm Broadband Network
OJAI, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Alarm service provider and leading technology developer NextAlarm Monitoring Services, Inc. reports that it has completed a major upgrade to its Alarm Broadband Network, or ABN. The upgrade leverages cloud computing technology to offer massively increased capacity, as well as enhanced safety and security features. ABN is the backbone of several of NextAlarm's products, including its cornerstone ABN Adapter, which allows legacy alarm panels to function using broadband Internet connections when a phone line is not present.
NextAlarm CEO Alex Elliot commented, "The POTS sunset, the shutdown of the traditional phone line network, is getting a lot of press. At NextAlarm, we already handle broadband signals for our own customers, as well as for a growing number of resellers, central stations, and dealers for those stations. We're expecting to process our one-hundred-millionth signal soon, and things are only accelerating as we grow. Moving ABN onto the latest technology is a natural next step."
In addition to alarm signals sent using ABN Adapters, the network upgrade encompasses several other of NextAlarm's products. The VoIPAlarm platform, which can retransmit those signals to any alarm monitoring service or central station, will also enjoy greatly increased capacity. The Outside Access Point, which allows remote telephone control of alarm systems connected to ABN Adapters, and E-Notify, which allows email notifications of alarm events, are also improved by the cloud network.
Cloud computing is a growing technology trend by which software systems can be easily installed and deployed across multiple data centers, with best-of-breed connectivity and hardware partners sharing the burden of infrastructure management, so that NextAlarm can better focus its resources on its core competencies - technology to monitor alarm systems over broadband. The cloud offers greatly increased capacity, with the ability to easily add more servers as needed without network downtime. In addition, if one server fails, the others can automatically take over without sacrificing signal quality or network reliability. The ABN cloud will initially use data centers on both coasts of the United States, with more server deployments planned in Europe and Asia.
