Nexmo Makes Password Replacement Painless with Verify SDK
New SDK gives developers even more options and control for user identity verification and management for iOS, Android and JavaScript
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Nexmo, the global cloud communications platform leader, today announced global availability of Verify SDK for iOS, Android and JavaScript operating systems and programming languages. Now developers will be able to easily add phone verification with a single line of code for password replacement, 2-factor authentication, or user and transaction verification to their applications. Verify SDK is the industry's only white-labeled SDK that allows developers to manage user identities across multiple devices and platforms without building a complex user management backend. Complimenting Verify API, Verify SDK adds a new level of security by tying phone numbers to unique device IDs, and introduces a subscription model, complementing the unique pay-per-conversion billing method.
Having helped customers like Snapchat, LINE, and QQ verify over three billion phones over the past five years, Nexmo has long observed the continued shift from password-based user identification to the more secure and reliable phone number-based verification process. As fraudsters become increasingly effective at cracking social media profiles and email and passwords, companies and developers looking to more reliably verify users have found substantial success by using phone numbers and device IDs.
"Using a phone number has been proven as an effective way to verify a person's identity, but brings the complexity of navigating a global telecommunications network," said Mark Winther, Group Vice President and Consulting Partner of Worldwide Telecommunications at IDC. "Nexmo helps eliminate this complexity and its Verify SDK introduces an interesting option to further simplify user verification to developers."
With one line of code, Verify SDK delivers user verification and authentication out of the box and saves development and design resources. Verify SDK offers the UX framework for verification right from the UI to collect a user's phone number, the UI displayed when a user receives a code, and the UI displayed for retries. On the backend, Verify SDK comes with user management support, so developers do not need to create and manage a database of users and query the database on each login request. Verify SDK also allows developers to verify users via push notifications once they have been verified via SMS or voice. This, combined with an optional unlimited verification subscription payment model, substantially decreases the cost for developers while giving them more flexibility.
After a robust beta program, Verify SDK has been fine tuned to user feedback for a variety of use cases. Beta user feedback includes:
- "At its core, Caresharing is about connecting health intelligently by offering a seamless connection between healthcare professionals and their patients," said Harm Rietjens, Co-Founder and CPO of Caresharing. "Nexmo's Verify SDK allowed Caresharing to manage user identities across multiple devices and platforms without building a complex user management backend, and add a new level of security by tying phone numbers to unique device IDs."
- "Call Levels was founded in an effort to democratize financial monitoring, and we want to empower our users to be able to take control of their financial decisions through our services," said Daniel Chia, Co-Founder of Call Levels. "As such, the Nexmo Verify SDK allowed us to implement a seamless verification process for our users, regardless of what device they are accessing our services from. Its ease of implementation, and user management functionality made it an ideal verification solution for Call Levels."
- "When developing the PinU app, we required a solution that could help us verify registrants to ensure the security and intimacy of community that our users required," said Haris Adu, Founder of PinU. "Nexmo's Verify SDK enabled PinU to scale the user verification process for new registrants, and the easy integration of the SDK allowed us to spend valuable engineering resources elsewhere."
"We have been a leader in the user verification space for so long, and with Verify SDK coming out of beta, we're thrilled to continue our innovation track record," said Thomas Soulez, VP of Product Management at Nexmo. "In the past, developers had to chose between good user experience or robust security. With Verify SDK, they can now have the best of both worlds with the easiest to integrate, cross-platform ID verification SDK"
