Newsweek Named Relaunch Of The Year By Media Industry Newsletter
Editor-in-Chief Jim Impoco Received Individual Honors as One of the "Most Intriguing People in Media"
NEW YORK, Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsweek received two honors at the Media Industry Newsletter's (MIN) Most Intriguing People + Hottest Launches Awards this morning. Newsweek was named relaunch of the year, and Editor-in-Chief Jim Impoco was named one of the Most Intriguing People in Media.
"We're proud of how Newsweek has grown in just the last year," said Etienne Uzac, co-founder and CEO of IBT Media, owner of Newsweek. "Jim has expanded the editorial team, and they are producing stellar work for audiences interested in premium, serious journalism."
IBT Media successfully re-launched Newsweek's print editions in the United States and Europe in March, and publishes six international versions through licensees. The editorial team of 60 staffers in New York and London is led by Jim Impoco, who was honored individually. The list of Most Intriguing People in Media are recognized by their peers and the marketplace by their innovation, strategy and guts.
"It's an honor to be recognized by our media colleagues," said Impoco. "I'm really proud of the work we've done at Newsweek this year, and look forward to more growth in 2015."
Global traffic to Newsweek.com has increased immensely between October 2013 and September 2014, from less than one million to nearly six million unique visitors a month. As an IBT Media property, Newsweek became profitable in October this year, driven by a three-pronged revenue strategy of subscriptions, advertising and licensed content.
"No other magazine story compares to the story of Newsweek," wrote Samir Husni, editor of the Mr. Magazine blog and presenter of the MIN Most Intriguing Awards. "With a different publishing and business model, Newsweek now sets the standard of what a weekly should be. It looks and reads like a monthly, but is published on a weekly basis."
