Williams's appointment was announced by James C. Duff, president and chief executive officer of the Freedom Forum and chief executive officer of the Newseum. The Freedom Forum, which operates the Newseum, champions the First Amendment as a cornerstone of democracy.
"We are very excited and pleased that Scott is joining our team," said Duff. "He is an exceptional talent with a proven record of success, and we are confident he will help us fulfill our educational mission at the Newseum and in our national outreach."
During his 12 years at Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., Williams led the team responsible for marketing and communications strategies that supported Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley and one of the most well-known destinations in the world. Williams also directed marketing and media for a variety of related attractions and events, including Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel and "Elvis Week," which takes place each year in Memphis, as well as more than 300 domestic and international licensees and partners.
Williams's team has also been integral to the success of Elvis.com, the brand's official website, as well as the creation of online and social networking strategies that resulted in the growth of Graceland's Facebook page to more than 6.4 million fans and produced dramatic increases in online merchandise sales, mobile traffic and online ticket purchases.
"I have long been a fan of the Newseum and the work being done by the Freedom Forum," said Williams. "I am honored to join the group that has made the Newseum the destination everyone who lives in or visits Washington must experience. Their vision and passion are evident, and I am excited to work alongside them to see continued growth and find new and exciting ways to further their mission."
Previously, Williams held marketing and advertising positions at Baptist Memorial Health Care, one of the nation's largest health care systems; ServiceMaster Corp.; and several Memphis-based advertising agencies.
Williams joins the Newseum on Oct. 1.
