Sustainable innovation in the form of product compliance solutions like SAP EHS Regulatory Documentation OnDemand is a key component of "Idea to Performance," a holistic business approach to increase product and service performance. "Idea to Performance" enables customers like the Wurth Group to manage business and consumer-driven innovation within the product portfolio and streamline the product innovation process while cost-effectively and proactively controlling operational risks that can adversely affect safety, quality, reliability and asset productivity.
To comply with safety regulations such as the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and REACH, the Wurth Group is required to provide documentation, including safety data sheets and labels. A decentralized approach to this process presented challenges for the company: product safety compliance would be a local responsibility with no corporate control; management of product safety compliance and level of organization varied significantly, with no systematic oversight; local services providers would need to be used with no cost control; and no global compliance management would be in place for the purchasing of chemical products.
SAP EHS Regulatory Documentation OnDemand will assist in faster turnaround times and processing of the Wurth Group's service requests by leveraging the power of the cloud-based SAP solution. The Wurth Group will provide new product or modified product information from their product life-cycle management (PLM) system while SAP maintains updates on regulations via global experts. SAP will then provide updated safety data sheets rapidly through the cloud for both new products or modified products when regulations change. The safety data sheets will then be integrated back into the on-premise SAP system, which in turn will be integrated across SAP® Business Suite software so the information is used across functions, helping to ensure more confident compliance and free up resources to focus on innovation. With SAP EHS Regulatory Documentation OnDemand, the time to availability of compliant safety data sheets for 108 countries can decrease nearly 30 percent.
"In taking this step, the Wurth Group is able to fulfill legal obligations and serve our customers with compliance information for chemical products in nearly 80 countries in a highly efficient way," said Dr. Andre Sporl, head of Regulatory Affairs, Adolf Wurth GmbH & Co. KG. "SAP EHS Regulatory Documentation OnDemand is a significant milestone to support our customers actively and in a solution-oriented manner."
The Wurth Group is a world market leader in its core business: the wholesale trade of fasteners, screws and screw accessories, dowels, chemicals, furniture and construction fittings, tools, machines, installation material, automotive hardware, inventory management, storage and retrieval systems. It currently consists of over 400 companies globally. The product range in its core business comprises over 100,000 products.
