WALLDORF, Germany, June 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that the U.S. Government Services Administration (GSA) identified SAP® Afaria® as a potential source of mobility management solutions for federal government agencies. The SAP Afaria mobile device management solution product identification was part of the launch of GSA's Government-Wide Mobile Device Management Program. The program aims to streamline the procurement process for government agencies to access mobile device management (MDM), mobile application management (MAM) and mobile life cycle management solutions through existing government-wide contracts and purchase agreements. As part of the process, GSA defined the requirements potential vendors needed to meet, identified potential suppliers to meet those needs and secured baseline pricing to help agencies budget for their MDM platform purchases.
As stated in the GSA press release, "With the near-universal adoption of smart mobile technology across the federal workforce, GSA's role as America's Buyer for the mobile work environment is more important than ever," said GSA Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini. "GSA's Managed Mobility program gives agencies the tools they need to buy once and buy well, saving taxpayer dollars and keeping pace with leading-edge mobile technologies."
Within the program, SAP Afaria, a core component of the SAP® Mobile Secure portfolio, was identified as one of the few potential sources of mobility management solutions. According to the GSA website, these solutions "have demonstrated an understanding of the government's functional Mobile Device Management and Mobile Application Management (MDM/MAM) requirements, have available FIPS 140-2 compliant solutions, and bring a functional understanding of FISMA compliance."
"Government agencies — much like their private sector counterparts — are increasingly leveraging enterprise mobility to engage their employees and serve U.S. citizens better," said Sanjay Poonen, president and head of Mobile Division, SAP. "It is essential for government workers to have access to secure, reliable mobile platforms so that the important work that they do remains protected. The comprehensive managed mobility infrastructure from SAP enables government agencies to manage mobile devices, apps, content and communications while also optimizing the mobile experience for end users."
