WALLDORF, Germany, July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced that it has opened a new UK facility where public safety officials can refine policing approaches against a global backdrop of rapid urbanization and technological change. The project, part of the SAP® Urban Matters initiative, is designed to improve citizen lives by providing safer cities.
At the facility's opening event, SAP worked with the UK's Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organized Crime Research at Sheffield Hallam University (CENTRIC) to provide interactive demonstrations of how technology can enhance police efforts to cut crime, improve road safety, raise public confidence and stay within budget.
As criminals migrate between the real and virtual worlds, police and law enforcement agencies must keep pace. Citizen expectations of their interactions with government have also risen, and police increasingly need to provide a "customer-centric" experience to the citizens they protect and to collaborate with them in fighting crime.
As they work to meet these rising expectations, police officers are often hindered by legacy ICT systems that have not kept pace with how public and criminal use of technology has evolved. This can leave police forces disconnected from the public they serve, hampering efforts at community policing. Any solutions must reflect the need of government everywhere to drive down ICT costs; meeting these challenges will be the focus of discussions at the launch event.
"The UK's police forces continue to be among the field's innovation leaders," said Professor Babak Akhgar, director, CENTRIC. "Working together, SAP and CENTRIC will have the opportunity to share some of the UK's newest policing strategies with law enforcement worldwide."
SAP helps police agencies to use real-time, predictive analytics and business intelligence to better target criminality, improve performance and deliver value for money. In addition, SAP helps police agencies to simplify their core processes, including incident and investigation management, property and evidence tracking, intelligence analysis and operational resource management. As a result, SAP supports the police in providing citizens a better police protection at lower cost.
SAP has longstanding relationships with police agencies worldwide. In Europe, customers are found in the UK, France, Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Italy; the U.S., Australia and Latin America are also strong markets for law enforcement solutions from SAP.
