WALLDORF, Germany, Sept. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) and partners have joined forces to attempt the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® title for the largest parade of electric vehicles. "SAP has always had a strong commitment to sustainability, and encouraging our employees to drive electric vehicles, ride share or bike to work is core to that philosophy," said Tanja Rueckert, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Products and Innovation Services, SAP SE. "This is why we are very excited to be collaborating with Bay Area municipalities, companies and organization. This fun challenge will not only try and set a new world record, but also showcase the simplicity and convenience of driving and owning an electric vehicle."
The SAP Palo Alto campus was one of the first Silicon Valley companies to install electric vehicle charging stations. The company also recently announced plans to increase electric vehicles in its car fleet to 20 percent by 2020.
For SAP, encouraging more sustainable behavior on the part of employees and in local communities has dual benefits. It contributes to helping reach the company's goal of cutting its carbon footprint to approximately half from the emission figures in 2007. These practices also strengthen SAP's standing as an employer of choice around the world.
