NEWS ADVISORY: UAPD President Stuart A. Bussey to Address University of California Regents About Proposed Plan to Transfer Prison Medical Care to UC
OAKLAND, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of Personnel Administration (DPA) is circulating a report, written by Texas-based telemedicine firm NuPhysicia, that recommends transferring responsibility for California prisoner medical care to the University of California, among other changes. UC Vice President John Stobo is scheduled to present the NuPhysicia plan to the UC Regents on Thursday at 9:30 am. During the 8:30 am open comment portion of the meeting, UAPD President Dr. Stuart Bussey and others from UAPD will present their objections to the NuPhysicia plan, as well as better alternatives for containing costs and improving medical care within California prisons. NuPhysicia has offered a salespitch, not a plan, and based that pitch on phony statistics and exaggerated cost savings estimates.
