"We decided to move our data warehouse environment to the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance, as it was the only technology that allowed us to scale up effortlessly and efficiently. We have rapidly expanded the number of banking customers, which has resulted in the growth of customer transactions as well as the number of internal data warehouse users. Our data warehouse users are successfully running more analyses and reports every day," said Henryk Baniowski, chief information officer, Alior Bank.
"The Data Warehouse Appliance 2580 is our third-generation appliance and a member of the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family. It continues our performance leadership and price/performance value for customers," said Randy Lea, vice president of products and services. "The Data Warehouse Appliance provides a lower cost entry point for business analytics. It also offers a seamless migration to our Active Enterprise Data Warehouse platform when customers require it. With the Teradata Platform Family, we are able to offer the right platform, at the right price, and give customers the confidence that they won't outgrow the power of Teradata."
Significant enhancements to the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance make it a scalable, easy to use, high-performance analytic engine for customers wanting to infuse intelligence into their enterprise.
- The significant performance improvement is made possible by leveraging the power of Teradata Database 13, with Intel® Xeon® Nehalem processors that are capable of hyper-threading and three times the amount of memory.
- Data scalability has been increased by two times over the previous version with the addition of one terabyte drives. Depending on customers' analytic needs, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance can now scale from two terabytes to over 500 terabytes of user data.
- The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance has been designed to make it easy for customers to get started within hours of delivery. The documentation has been rewritten and simplified, with step-by-step instructions.
- The Teradata Database, combined with the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance, offers improved query optimizer performance and in-database data mining and geospatial capabilities.
- Teradata Customer Service has added two additional levels of support to match the unique requirements that customers have for higher levels of proactive customer service, which are required for enterprise data warehouse deployment.
- Data loading has been simplified with the introduction of Teradata EasyLoader, which offers customers a single-step execution to easily load data into the appliance.
- Teradata is the only vendor that enables its customers to protect their investments by extending the appliance life span beyond the technology refresh period. To make it easy to refresh hardware or grow, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance is the only appliance in the industry that is capable of co-residency. Co-residency is the technical capability to connect and work in tandem with the previous version and future versions of the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance. Because of Teradata innovations, it is no longer necessary to do an expensive "floor sweep" in order to refresh all hardware platforms.
The Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance leverages energy-efficient processors, which are housed in a patented cabinet designed to reduce heat output. This energy-efficient architecture reduces data center cooling costs. In addition, the Teradata Platform Family offers an improvement in the data center floor space needed for the same processing capability reducing overall data center costs.
The Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family offers customers options enabling them to optimize their data warehouse environment for both price and performance. The Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse platform meets the most demanding requirements in the industry. For those who require departmental analytics or have core decision support requirements, Teradata customers can choose the Teradata Data Mart Appliance or the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance. Customers who have analytical archival needs can now load historical data, typically off-loaded to tape, into the Teradata Extreme Data Appliance and directly query it for analytics or compliance requirements, at a very low cost.
In mid-2010, Teradata will be adding a new Teradata Extreme Performance Appliance; the industry's first all solid state drive appliance for hyper-analytics giving customers more performance and price options. All of the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family members provide enterprise-class capability for today's toughest environments. As customers analyze their analytical needs in developing their data warehouse architecture, Teradata can truly be a trusted advisor that presents customers with a range of architectural options for best price and performance optimization, instead of a single product with a single price from other vendors.
