WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Halcyon, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting early-stage social entrepreneurs, today announces its eighth cohort for the Halcyon Incubator program. With an acceptance rate of less than 3%, Halcyon is bringing social enterprises that focus on big ideas tackling some of the most current and prevalent societal issues today.
As one of the premier incubators in the country, Halcyon supports many of the top recognized social entrepreneurs in America and has helped 55 ventures raise over $24 million in funding and impact the lives of half a million people around the world. As a haven for social entrepreneurs, the 18-month fellowship supplies fellows with robust support from experts, alongside a residency in Washington D.C.
"We are thrilled that the new cohort of fellows are tackling some of the most relevant and urgent problems in our communities," says Ryan Ross, Program Director of the Halcyon Incubator. "I can now look at the news headlines with a sense of optimism, knowing there are incredible founders solving for these problems as we speak."
The newest ventures for Halcyon Incubator's Cohort Eight include:
JDoe is the world's first truly anonymous, end-to-end encrypted reporting platform for survivors of sexual assault, rape and harassment.
Pilleve is an integrated pill bottle that captures real time data on prescription intake, helping care providers and insurance companies prevent the long-term costs associated with opioid abuse and addiction.
EnrichHER is a blockchain-enabled platform created to provide funding, networking and educational opportunities for the vastly underserved, women-led business community.
Weird Enough Productions teaches students how to access, analyze, evaluate and create media content, while also boosting traditional literacy and standardized test scores.
Entrada is an employer-sponsored platform that teaches language to entry-level, service industry employees while they work.
Conserve With Us is a platform that allows people and communities to connect with critical land conservation projects and protect the places that matter to them.
Helpusgreen is revolutionizing the way India handles the 'Million-ton flower waste disposal' by turning floral waste into organic fertilizers, natural incense and biodegradable packaging material.
Localized connects students and aspiring professionals in emerging markets to global professionals who share language, roots and cultural context to provide access to career guidance from experts in the field.
Cohort Eight of Halcyon Incubator will begin on February 5, 2017 at Halcyon House located in Washington D.C.
