Newell Named President Of Seaway, A Division Of Self-Help Federal Credit Union
CHICAGO, Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Daryl Newell has been named President of Seaway, a division of Self-Help Federal Credit Union (www.self-helpfcu.org), effective August 1, 2018.
Daryl will manage strategic organizational planning for Self-Help's development and growth in the South and West Sides of Chicago and parts of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He will also ensure the division meets member service, lending, operational, and financial performance goals across the Seaway footprint.
Daryl has had a long career in banking in the Chicago area. He previously served as Seaway's chief retail banking officer, overseeing operations within the branch network. Before joining Seaway Bank, Newell was a Retail Regional Manager at Fifth Third Bank where he was responsible for operations at 12 banking centers. He also served as Director of the Consumer Banking Group at Urban Partnership Bank.
Daryl has been part of the Chicago community since he returned from a stint with the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him from Northwestern University. His commitment to the community has been demonstrated in many ways, especially through his leadership mentoring Black youth as part of the 100 Black Men of Chicago, a men's civic organization and service club dedicated to improving the quality of life of young males within our communities.
Seaway, a division of Self-Help Federal Credit Union, was once the largest African-American owned bank in the Midwest. Seaway had served communities in south and west Chicago as well as Milwaukee since 1965. Self-Help Federal CU assumed management of Seaway's branch network and deposits in May 2017.
Self-Help Federal Credit Union was chartered in 2008 to build a network of branches that serve working families and underserved communities. With 17 branches in California, 9 branches in the Illinois and Wisconsin, approximately $1.1 billion in assets, and serving more than 79,000 members, Self-Help Federal CU is one of the fastest-growing low-income designated credit unions in the country.
