This year's game features the 21st-ranked Navy Midshipmen (10-2) versus the Pittsburgh Panthers (8-4).
NewDay USA is the sponsor of the Medal of Honor Reception held prior to the game. The NewDay USA Foundation supports Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation programs for character and leadership development and responsible citizenship in middle and high school curriculums throughout the country. The NewDay USA Foundation also provides scholarship assistance for the children of veterans with significant service-related disabilities to select military high schools.
During halftime, Rear Admiral Tom Lynch, USN (Ret.), executive chairman of the NewDay USA Board of Advisors and co-chair of the NewDay USA Foundation, and Rob Posner, CEO of NewDay USA, will present a $25,000 NewDay USA Foundation academic scholarship to an eighth-grade student at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA. The boy's uncle—and legal guardian--was injured while serving in Iraq in 2007.
"Fishburne is honored and enthused that the NewDay USA Foundation is recognizing the families of those who served and sacrificed so much," said Gary Morrison, Superintendent of Fishburne Military School. "For 136 years, Fishburne Military School has been one of the finest military high schools in the United States. The family of this cadet has sacrificed so much for the good of us all and continues to sacrifice for those around them. It is a true joy and a reminder that there is goodness in this world. This NewDay USA Foundation scholarship provides the opportunity for this young cadet to continue his studies throughout his academic career at Fishburne."
"The NewDay Foundation scholarship program provides an amazing opportunity for children whose parents or guardians have made great sacrifices for our country. This scholarship will provide an education that may not have otherwise been available to this student," said Admiral Lynch
