New Yorkers for Beverage Choices Statement on Board of Health Hearing
NEW YORK, July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today members of New Yorkers for Beverage Choices joined business leaders, City Council Members and concerned New Yorkers at the Board of Health's public hearing to again voice our opposition to the proposed beverage ban. The coalition hand-delivered more than 6,100 hard-copy comments from New Yorkers who oppose the ban, and officially registered with the Board the more than 91,700 New Yorkers and more than 1,500 businesses who have signed the petition opposing the ban.
New Yorkers for Beverage Choices issued the following statement today:
"By scheduling this hearing in the middle of a business day during many restaurants' and delis' busy lunch periods, the Department of Health is sending a clear message that they are not interested in hearing what real New Yorkers have to say about this proposal.
"The citywide outpouring of opposition to this proposal is a testament to the fact that New Yorkers feel this proposal is arbitrary, unfair and ineffective. Instead of helping us through this recession, the Mayor's misguided proposal will target small business owners with additional regulations. We know we're playing against a stacked deck, but we ask the members of the Board of Health to please listen to the voices of the tens of thousands of New Yorkers who do not want this ban. We can make our own choices about what to eat and drink."
