New York Workers Compensation Lawyer Adnan Munawar Weighs in on yet another Midtown Crane Accident
New York Workers Comp Lawyer Adnan Munawar, of Munawar & Andrews-Santillo, issues a statement after crane drops heating and air conditioning unit in midtown.
NEW YORK, June 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Another midtown crane accident has taken place, according to reports by the New York Times ("Crane Accident in Midtown Manhattan Injures 7 and Damages Buildings. May 31, 2015). This time, everyone nearby was lucky as there were no reported deaths or major injuries. The incident happened on Sunday morning on Madison Avenue between East 38th and East 39th Streets, when a crane was hoisting up a heating and air conditioning unit. Officials reported that the unit scraped the building on the way down, sending metal, glass, and concrete debris scattering below, though none of the debris fell in the setbacks, or buffer zones designed to protect the surrounding vicinity.
Officials have not determined an exact cause of the accident and stated that the crane was operating normally and that the construction site had valid permits to operate. The building was empty at the time and one lane of traffic on Madison Avenue was closed, though debris did fall on passing cars. Over 150 first responders rushed to the scene and reported the worst injuries as lacerations, but still minor injuries. Considering the chain of events, officials stated that they were fortunate it was not significantly worse.
"First of all, we are grateful that no one was seriously injured and that we have such professional first responders to remedy and contain situations such as these," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "If the initial reports are accurate, this goes to show that even when construction sites are being operated according to plan, grave danger is still a possibility. There were areas blocked off, the building was empty, the crane was allegedly working fine, yet a much worse scenario was narrowly avoided."
"Construction accidents are among the most common, and even when everyone involved is doing what they are supposed to be doing, victims are still entitled to compensation. The particular circumstances of the accident will determine the source of a victim's compensation and for what she is being compensated. In addition to providing much needed financial support for victims, filing a claim also serves as a deterrent to any construction site operators who might be considering cutting corners with their workers' safety. Knowing what types of claims to file and against whom to file them is best done with the guidance of an expert and gives you the best possible chance of getting the compensation you need and deserve. Consulting with a personal injury attorney is free, and you only pay a fee when you collect, so there is essentially no reason not to pick up the phone and get the advice of an expert."
